Services

Bare Root Natives provides site-specific ecological landscape design for residential, civic, and commercial properties. Our work blends ecological research, artistic planting design, and long-term landscape strategy to create resilient landscapes rooted in place.

Design

Site-Specific Ecological Landscape Design

Each project begins with understanding the land itself. Sunlight patterns, soil conditions, hydrology, and ecological history shape how native plant communities are designed. By working with these conditions rather than against them, landscapes become both beautiful and resilient.

  • Native plant community design

  • Planting palettes tailored to site conditions

  • Seasonal bloom and structure planning

  • Habitat-focused landscape composition

Analysis

Site Analysis & Ecological Assessment

Successful native landscapes begin with careful observation. Bare Root Natives evaluates site conditions to identify ecological opportunities and constraints before design begins.

  • Sunlight and shade patterns

  • Soil conditions and structure

  • Drainage and hydrology

  • Existing vegetation and habitat potential

This process allows landscapes to perform naturally and thrive over time.

Planning

Landscape Planning & Concept Development

For larger properties, developments, or institutional landscapes, Bare Root Natives develops conceptual plans that guide long-term landscape transformation.

  • Conceptual planting strategies

  • Native landscape master planning

  • Restoration concepts for open spaces

  • Integration of native landscapes into development plans

These strategies help projects evolve through phased implementation.

Implementation

Implementation Strategy & Phased Installation

Many landscapes evolve over time. Bare Root Natives provides guidance for implementing native landscapes through manageable phases, allowing property owners, municipalities, and organizations to transform landscapes gradually while maintaining ecological integrity.

  • Site preparation recommendations

  • Planting strategy and sequencing

  • Phased installation planning

  • Long-term landscape stewardship considerations

Residential

Residential Native Landscape Design

Native landscapes can transform residential properties into vibrant ecosystems that support pollinators, reduce maintenance, and provide year-round beauty.

Bare Root Natives works with homeowners to design landscapes that replace low-value turf with diverse native plant communities tailored to each property.

  • Lawn reduction strategies

  • Pollinator gardens

  • Prairie-style plantings

  • Native pathways and outdoor spaces

Civic & Institutional

Municipal & Institutional Landscapes

Native landscapes can serve as ecological infrastructure within communities. Bare Root Natives works with municipalities, educational campuses, and organizations to design landscapes that support biodiversity while improving stormwater absorption and reducing long-term maintenance.

  • Civic landscapes

  • Parks and community spaces

  • Campus landscapes

  • Ecological restoration areas

Getting Started

How Projects Begin

Most projects begin with a site consultation and landscape assessment. During this visit we walk the property, discuss goals, and evaluate ecological opportunities for native plant communities.

Consultations typically last 60–90 minutes.

Consultation Fee: $150

If a project moves forward, this fee is credited toward design services.
